Order Fulfillment 101

The term order fulfillment refers to everything a company does between receiving an order from a customer and placing the product in the customer’s hands. Moreover, it refers to the way firms respond to customer orders, and the process they take to move products from those orders, to the customer. Order fulfillment processes vary widely.

Though every industry operates their order fulfillment operations differently, it’s generally accepted that the quicker an order can be delivered, the happier a customer is going to be. More and more companies are starting to outsource their order fulfillment duties with the goal of expediting deliveries. Commonly, they partner with third party logistics firms. These firms keep a fully stocked inventory of the company’s products and fulfill all orders in a timely manner. As a result, the manufacturing company does not have to complete any additional tasks to ensure that the product is delivered properly to the end user.

The fulfillment process includes the warehousing of products, receiving the order, “picking” (finding) the items ordered in the warehouse, “packing” (packaging) those items, “shipping” it to the right address, and notifying the customer that their order is on the way.

Our Calgary order fulfillment experts can help you develop fast, accurate, and cost-efficient order fulfillment systems and strategies for different products and order profiles, reducing your transaction costs and giving you a competitive advantage over other suppliers.

Many new businesses start out performing their own Calgary fulfillment processes while the business is small, as this can be cost-effective and a good choice early on when few orders are being handled. As the business grows, however, the amount of time that the fulfillment process takes for the company and its employees may become too great, and less cost effective.

Fulfillment centers are a vital aspect of any business that’s expanding. Your office can only act as your warehouse for so long before you begin to lose your computer under stacks of shipping materials. A fulfillment center is designed to house your product and provide pack and pick services as soon as orders come in.

Our focus on operational excellence means you get consistent quality across your fulfillment operations. Designing and operating a warehouse that delivers bottom-line benefits is the core focus of all our solutions. By outsourcing your Alberta order fulfillment, you’re lowering your overhead because you’re just paying for the amount of shipping you’re doing and not having to pay for staff during slow times or increase staff during the holiday buying rush.

Outsourcing your order fulfillment will make your people more productive, your organization more efficient, and your business more competitive.

LTL 101 – The Basics

Sometimes, a shipment is too large to send with a parcel service, like Canada post, but way too small to fill a standard truck trailer. In fact, the cost of this shipment as a parcel or truckload would be insanely high because it’s not ideal for either type of providers. In this case, LTL shipping is ideal.
