Message From The President

This past month seemed to be full of technology related challenges in our world – from the vehicle service needed and the resulting software updates that fixed them, to my children’s online study tools and computer aided reading and learning, it seemed technology was touching every corner of our day. It didn’t stop there, in the FMi offices we’ve spent considerable time as a team growing and improving our internal systems, from our WMS &TMS solutions and deeper EDi integration to the hardware efforts of updating our servers and networks to ensure we continue to have a strong platform to service our clients supply chains – the investment in technology is substantial in all of our businesses and personal lives.

The message is clear, just as we’ve all learned over the years that Human Resources is a key, perhaps in many businesses it’s the MOST critical key to success, we are also seeing that immense investment in Technology continues to run a close second, in some businesses even surpassing Human Resources as the key investment. Technology will continue to evolve, challenging us to figure out a way to improve, do better, communicate faster – more efficiently – and it’s in these technology driven outcomes, that we learn the value of maintaining and investing in our close relationship with Technology.

I expect this upcoming Supply Chain trade show season to again be full of opportunity and technological shifts and we are excited to see what’s next. Will it be more accessible robotic picking teams or mobile floors to bring the orders to the people? How will the road transportation sector change? What new planning software will exist for fulfillment in our largest retailers? It’s truly exciting to see such change taking place at this pace, though sometimes I need a break, I’m just afraid to take one, I might miss something big.
